Roof Closed Globe Life Field, First indoor World Series possibility

In the first game of the World Series, which determines the 2023 champions of the U.S. Major League Baseball (MLB), Arizona Diamondbacks and Texas Rangers players will compete on a stadium with a closed roof.

According to the Associated Press on the 28th (Korea Standard Time), the MLB Secretariat decided to close the roof of Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, five and a half hours before Game 1 of the World Series, which will kick off on the same day.

The game will be held at 7 p.m. local time in the U.S., and the MLB Secretariat has decided not to open the roof of Globe Life Field, as temperatures in the early 20s are predicted to rain with thunder and lightning.

Chase Field in Phoenix, Arizona, which is used as a home by the Arizona club, is also a stadium with a retractable roof, so the Associated Press predicted that the World Series could all be played at indoor stadiums for the first time in history.

Whether the roof is opened or closed is decided by the home team in the regular season and by the MLB Secretariat in the postseason. 스포츠토토

The weather in Arlington, Dallas and Fort Worth, the home of the Texas club, is famous for being hot even when playing night games in the middle of summer. The temperature often exceeds 38 degrees just before the game.

The Texas club installed a retractable roof when building Globe Life Field, which opened in 2020, to improve players' performance, closing the roof not only when it rains but also when it is hot.

The roof is sometimes closed to prevent the pedestrian passage of the stadium from becoming slippery in the humid heat wave.

The Texas team played 11 times in the regular season this year. The last time the roof was opened was on May 22.

In this year's postseason, Texas played three of its four games with the roof closed until the previous day.
